What Is Search Engine Optimisation (SEO)

Here at Digipeak we are experts in all things SEO, but we understand that not everyone in business is. Whilst you may understand that it has something to do with your website, your knowledge may not go much past this.

So, with this in mind we have put together our beginners guide to SEO. All to ensure that you ensure not only what SEO is, but why your business needs it!

What is SEO?

When someone searches for a product or service online, then the results that are displayed all decided on thanks to SEO. Search Engine Optimisation, as the name suggests, is the methods, processes and techniques that companies can use in order to make sure that they are seen on search engines.

There a number of factors to consider when thinking about SEO. Whilst the main part is the keywords that you use as well as how you use them, you also need to think about making sure that your content is useful and user friendly. Not just an assortment of nonsensical words. You also need to think about things such as whether your website is friendly to mobile users and if the website is easy to navigation and understand.

Why do you need SEO?

Now you know what SEO is, you may ask yourself whether or not you really need it. The answer is, yes. The majority of the traffic that comes to your website is likely to be thanks to search engines, and more traffic means more customers. Or at least hopefully.

The thing about SEO, is when someone searches for a keyword that is related to your business, then there is a much greater chance they will want to buy from you or use your service. Therefore, the visitors that come from SEO are much more likely to convert, which means that they turn into customers.

So all I need is a SEO rich website?

Not entirely. Whilst it is important that SEO is a feature of your website, you still need to make sure that it looks and works properly. There is no use filling it with 100s of keywords, as whilst they may direct traffic to your site. They won’t stay long, particularly if it doesn’t make any sense, or show what you actually can do.

The trick is to get the balance right. Have plenty of SEO keywords throughout the content, but don’t make this your main focus.

Instead, try to achieve a round balance. You will be incredibly grateful that you made the effort to do this. Particularly when you see the increase of people it brings to your website.
