Top 6 Biggest SEO Mistakes To Avoid in 2019

Whatever your online intentions might be, it can prove all too easy to get lost in amongst the millions of other websites offering the same thing as you. To improve your rankings and remain relevant you need to get your SEO right. However, there are a number of mistakes that can be made that will result in you losing your ranking. SEO is a kind of moving target as search engines are constantly changing their methodology and algorithms in order to determine the ranking of every website they list.

As we move into 2019, SEO and search engines are changing and it is this shift that requires you to make the right decisions in order to rank highly with the many search engines. In order to keep your site on track, you need to avoid the following SEO mistakes.

You Fail to Appreciate the Importance of Mobile Search

Google has now identified the way in which users are now shifting from desktops to mobile devices and so, there is no longer a huge emphasis on desktop-first design. Therefore, when it comes to SEO, it is important that your strategy centres itself around the mobile world. While this is not a new trend, it is one that is more important than ever before. So, you will need to consider whether your site is mobile friendly because Google considers this to be extremely important and this should not become a top priority for you.

If you have always taken a desktop-first approach to design, now is the time to make a change because you need to begin delivering a mobile experience to your users or visitors. Google considers this to be extremely important and that is why you need to avoid taking focusing on desktop designs alone. In line with this way of thinking, you should now spend time focusing on the content of your mobile site because it now carries more significance than the content of your desktop site.

Failing to Deliver a Seamless User Experience

Google has made it clear that it considers user experience to be a priority for them. If you do not meet the specific criteria in place for user experience, you simply will not rank high enough. Users now want sites to load quickly and Google measures the speed of your website, highlighting the importance of improving your loading speeds. Once again, the mobile aspect of your website is forming a huge part of the user experience. Users are now accessing more and more sites on their mobile devices. If you fail to offer a mobile-friendly website, your search engine ranking will be severely affected.

You Fail to Use SEO Experts

When it comes to SEO, you need to get it right in every possible way. SEO is a full-time job and that means that it requires a prior understanding of current trends, strategies and all changes made to algorithms. There are many marketing professionals out there who might know the basics but that is still not enough. Real SEO professionals stay on top of the latest trends and they will have a lot of experience to call on. If you try and experiment with your website while trying to cut corners it will take more time and money to put right because a lot of problems will arise as a result of it.

You Choose “Black Hat” Methods for Fast Results

Ultimately, there are two types of SEO practices known as “Black Hat” and “White Hat”. There is a  difference between the two and understanding these differences can help you.

Black Hat involves breaking the guidelines put in place by search engines and this involves keyword stuffing, using purchased links, using hidden text and links and blog comment spam. While these methods can get you fast results occasionally, they carry a risk because search engines are always monitoring and this can lead to penalties and even bans.

Opting to go down the route of White Hat, will mean that the correct practices are used and subsequently accepted and encouraged by search engines. This method requires more work in terms of research and analysis but the results are long-lasting and will enhance the overall user experience. This will, in turn, improve the accuracy of your website and search results. Therefore, avoiding “Black Hat” methods will ensure you get the best results possible.

You Avoid Technical Best Practices

Even though 2019 is almost upon us, it does not mean that you can avoid the technical best practices. Just because you have met all other criteria it does not mean that you can avoid the technical aspect of your website. If you do, then you will pay for it.

If your site is blocked from search engine robots and your pages are not indexed then your site will not be acknowledged or found. This is a basic mistake but one that is rather common. If your site has been designed in a way that puts all of your services or products onto one page, then you will be penalised for this. Every product or service has to have its own page, specifically optimised. This will involve the right alignment of keywords to ensure that they remain relevant to the phrases that people are searching for in Google.

Google considers trust an important aspect of SEO. If you fail to grow your link portfolio on the most reputable sites, you will not be seen to be trustworthy, so you need to continue to grow those backlinks. One aspect of SEO is UX or User Experience and it is all too easy for you to let the design of your website fall behind the latest trends. It is important that you keep your site updated and on trend as you head into 2019 because if you deliver an improved user experience, users will spend more time on your site and that will improve your SEO.

SEO is Evolving – Make Sure You Move with the Times

For improved recognition and exposure, it is important that you follow the correct SEO practices. Users demand the best experience possible and that involves being presented with websites that are relevant and useful. If you adhere to the correct SEO strategies, your website will be ranked as high as possible and that means that your website will achieve the results you have come to expect.

On-Page SEO Our 9 Top Tips For 2018 (UPDATED FEBRUARY 2018)

So we’re halfway through 2018 and Googles recent algorithm changes, even know they won’t say their algorithm changes have knocked a few websites sidewards.

In this post, I’ll share with you top strategies for On-page SEO and what you can do to overcome your competitors with just a few tweaks of your website pages and posts including other things that we will be covering in this post.

So let’s dive right in.

The first thing you want to look at and changing is the page title; now I know some experts suggest that title tag has no real effect, but I believe and have tested changing the title tags, it’s beneficial in your Google positioning in the Google search.

I strongly recommend you change the URL to the same keywords that you use for the title, so it sounds if you’ve created a page or blog post with the title of “pink pigs go on sale”. Then I would use the URL with something like /pink-pigs-go-online-sale. It helps Google understand what this page or post is really about. Don’t keyword spam the title, I strongly suggest using one keyword and then text alongside it like this for instance.

1. Overlooked metadata can often be a problem, and with the rise of WordPress it’s now powering a considerable amount of websites on the internet, and also one of the biggest SEO plug-ins out there Yoast SEO duplicates some of the data on every page so making each page’s title and description would significantly increase your chance of gaining first page rankings.

2. At an image with the caption of that message, helps add a few more keywords on the blog article or page, it also helps for user experience. No, I’m not sure whether this has been a correlation with Google, but other SEO experts have said that your User experience (UX) has a factor within SEO and I actually do believe that that is the case as Google is and still is measuring your website bounce rate, I find that people will see that image understand what it’s about with the keywords or a caption on the picture. It will also help with SEO with those additional few keywords within a page.

3. I would add three or four main keywords within the body of the page or post so I would usually put it at the top in the middle and the bottom of the page/post. Add one of those keywords as a link back to one of your internal pages, so for instance if the blog post is about “pink pigs” and how you sell the “best pink pigs” what I would do is add a link back from the keyword to a page, to the “buying pink pigs” page on the website.

4. What I would do is if it’s a WordPress site or a standard HTML site I would add to the right-hand sidebar or left-hand sidebar depending on which orientation you have built into the place on and add a contact form on the post or page, so again for instance if that post about pigs, you just uploaded is about “pink pigs” I would have a particular “pink pig” contact from “how to buy the pink pigs online” or enquire more about the “pink pigs” etc.

5. I would also add to the bottom of that the contact information regarding any information to contact you directly such as name address or telephone number I’ll also add am your Author information at the bottom of page about you know that can be you with the director of the business we could be the author who wrote that blog articles with it somewhere different like a guest writer that is also good

6. I would add social media bookmarks at the bottom of the article reason I added to the lower part of the article is you don’t wanna ask someone soon as the land of the page to share that article or page that they have when they haven’t even read the content yet it’s quite annoying, I think what you’ll find is more people share and like the post if you’ve had it at the bottom and also is well out in the contact card in the proportion details to them from the from the author also helps because that will build up I thought it was Google.

7. Start with a keyword on the first page of the title, I have tested for this and find that this was well but don’t Keyword stuff. Use it as a sort of a beginning title, as we’ve done on this post.

8. Make sure to use H1, H2 and H3 within the text. Ensure that you use the H1 tag for the blog title then maybe H2 or H3 for a subtitle if you need it and then just use regular font on the text of the actual blog post I know we tend to go with around 16 pixels depending on the audience of the website if you find that over 50s are coming to your site that you will increase that around 18 or 20 pixels as long as there is around no more than around 70 characters on a line.

9. Use longer wording blog posts and pages, we recently tested this, we used a 500-word article and also just over a 1,000-word article. We found that the one with over 1,000 words reached the first page of Google for its main keywords and showed up a lot more in the rankings for different keywords in Google than the 500-word post.

These are my top nine tips on how to out how to outline the perfect blog or page, and through testing constantly.

Jameson General Store was a historical treasure in the small North Carolina Community. Jim Jameson, the owner, had been part of the family legacy over 100 years old. The company had seen bad times, including The Great Depression. However, their hard work and customer loyalty had sustained the company’s success.

Even when a neighbouring community got its Walmart’s Marketplace Store, their customers remained loyal. Jim did not believe in utilizing online advertising and social media platforms. He believed that these activities were only a fad. Yet, their customers gradually started shopping online because Jameson General Store was limited in its product offerings.

In fact, most of the business that Jameson Store lost was not to local competitors, but online sellers. Jim was adamant about resisting the temptation about shopping online. Yet, when he saw his own 10-year-old grandson purchase a difficult item to locate in the area online at significant costs, Jim had to ponder his current marketing strategy with the changing landscape in the nation.

Today’s customers can purchase a variety of items online with minimum effort. Given this scenario, brick and mortar companies are fighting to stay alive with the fierce internet competition. According to a 2017 survey conducted by Square and Mercury Analytics looking at 1,164 U.S. business owners, the following observations were made:

96% of Americans with internet access have made an online purchase in their life, 80% in the past month alone.

51% of Americans prefer to shop online.

67% of Millennials and 56% of Gen Xers prefer to shop online rather than in-store.

Millennials and Gen Xers spend nearly 50% as much time shopping online each week (six hours) than their older counterparts (four hours).

51% of seniors have shopped on marketplaces, 66% at large retailer sites, 30% on web stores or independent boutiques, and 44% at category-specific online stores.

Marketing Potential

Marketing professionals understand the importance of the internet and how to effectively leverage this power. According to, 90% of marketers use social media for their businesses. Sadly, many small businesses do not recognize this fact. Many businesses had opted to bury their heads in the sand in hopes that this ‘internet thing’ will go away. It hadn’t!
In fact, e-Commerce is growing more than 23% annually; however, 46% of American small businesses do not have a website according to Square and Mercury Analytics research. This article focuses on how small businesses can leverage digital marketing to achieve greater success and enhance their market opportunities.

Digital marketing should be a tool that every serious small business should utilize. Digital marketing goes by many names such as e-commerce marketing, online marketing, and internet marketing. Digital marketing can be defined as “the marketing of products or services using digital channels to reach consumers.” The key objective is to promote brands the usage of the internet.

Digital marketing extends beyond internet marketing to include channels that do not require the use of the internet. Some digital marketing channels include websites, social media platforms, email marketing, search engine optimization (SEO), blogging, podcasts, and online advertising to name a few. Beyond technology gimmicks, businesses should know their customers and their core competencies. Digital marketing is not a silver bullet. Digital marketing is a tool for the savvy business professional.

Catherine Juan, Donnie Greiling, and Catherine Buerkle, authors of Internet Marketing: Start to Finish, suggest that effective digital marketing requires plenty of careful planning. They add, “The heart of getting real traction out of your internet marketing program is to tie marketing and sales data together, with metrics. Track what you’re doing, track the impact, and track the resulting sales.” Looking at the landscape of technology and internet innovation, small businesses should think strategically about the following five digital marketing trends:

• Artificial Intelligence – Some people develop elaborate doom-day scenarios of machines to control the world. However, artificial intelligence (AI) is becoming a way of life in marketing. AI can be defined as ‘the theory and development of computer systems able to perform tasks that normally require human intelligence.’ Voice Activation technology like Amazon’s Echo is bringing AI into public attention. By 2020, customers will manage 85% of their purchases without interacting with a person.

• Internet Searching – Buyers are more knowledgeable than ever with access to the internet. In fact, 81% of shoppers conduct online research before making big purchases. Thus, exploring how to utilize search engine optimization and getting your business at the top of searches is an invaluable step.

• Mobile Communications – Most Americans have grown accustomed to instant gratification and easy access to technology. Mobile and tablet e-commerce will reach $293B by 2018. Smartphone and tablets are part of this wave of innovation. Mobile will account for 72% of the U.S. digital ad spend by 2019. Marketers recognize that mobile marketing is an untapped business tool.

• Social Media – Social media platforms, like Facebook, allows buyers to connect with each other virtually. 65% of business-to-business companies have acquired customers through LinkedIn ads. Marketers realise this value.

• Web Content – Good content will attract customers. In fact, customers are more likely to purchase from sellers with good, relevant videos/photos on their website. 52% of marketing professionals globally name the video as the type of content with the best ROI.

Artificial Intelligence plays a massive role in SEO going into 2018, and as we already use AI for SEO we have found it has had a great effect ont he business. Let us help you rank higher in 2018.

What Is Search Engine Optimisation (SEO)

Here at Digipeak we are experts in all things SEO, but we understand that not everyone in business is. Whilst you may understand that it has something to do with your website, your knowledge may not go much past this.

So, with this in mind we have put together our beginners guide to SEO. All to ensure that you ensure not only what SEO is, but why your business needs it!

What is SEO?

When someone searches for a product or service online, then the results that are displayed all decided on thanks to SEO. Search Engine Optimisation, as the name suggests, is the methods, processes and techniques that companies can use in order to make sure that they are seen on search engines.

There a number of factors to consider when thinking about SEO. Whilst the main part is the keywords that you use as well as how you use them, you also need to think about making sure that your content is useful and user friendly. Not just an assortment of nonsensical words. You also need to think about things such as whether your website is friendly to mobile users and if the website is easy to navigation and understand.

Why do you need SEO?

Now you know what SEO is, you may ask yourself whether or not you really need it. The answer is, yes. The majority of the traffic that comes to your website is likely to be thanks to search engines, and more traffic means more customers. Or at least hopefully.

The thing about SEO, is when someone searches for a keyword that is related to your business, then there is a much greater chance they will want to buy from you or use your service. Therefore, the visitors that come from SEO are much more likely to convert, which means that they turn into customers.

So all I need is a SEO rich website?

Not entirely. Whilst it is important that SEO is a feature of your website, you still need to make sure that it looks and works properly. There is no use filling it with 100s of keywords, as whilst they may direct traffic to your site. They won’t stay long, particularly if it doesn’t make any sense, or show what you actually can do.

The trick is to get the balance right. Have plenty of SEO keywords throughout the content, but don’t make this your main focus.

Instead, try to achieve a round balance. You will be incredibly grateful that you made the effort to do this. Particularly when you see the increase of people it brings to your website.

If you are still not sure on what to do, then speak to us here at Digipeak. We can guide you through the tricky world of SEO and make sure that your website is exactly how you need it to be.

SEO services – Why you need an SEO company in 2017

The world of SEO is always improving and Google, the leader in the world of search engine results, is always looking at new ways to rate the millions and millions of websites that it holds within its search engine. Google uses Artificial Intelligence to run a whole host of daily updates, which makes the search results that you will see when you type in particular key words.

This means, just because one day you are not performing quite how you wanted, make a couple of changes and the next day you could see a huge improvement.

Changes to the Google Algorithm

As you can see, Google doesn’t like to sit stagnant when it comes to search engine results, in fact, it really likes to change things up a bit. In fact, it is thought that Google can change its algorithms as much as 500 times every year.

Of course, the majority of these changes are relatively minor and can go unnoticed, but there are also some that are much more major and could have an impact on how you sit on the rankings, and ultimately how well your SEO attempts actually work out.

Whilst it still remains unconfirmed the last major update the Google but in place was nicknamed “Fred”. It is thought that this came into force on March 8th 2017 and tackled those websites that have low-value content that does not focus on the users, only their revenue. However, Google have not confirmed that this particular update ever happened.

There were, however, two confirmed updates that both happened in the first week of February this year. The first change was on the 1st February and caused a huge change to the algorithm within Google, which then went on until the 6th February. Some people seem to think that this was all part of one extended roll-out, whilst others believe that they were separate changes.

The main aim of this particular update was to focus on being able to discount spam and links to up the performance of the algorithm.

There haven’t been any more major updates that we know of recently, but we are sure that it is only a matter of time before new ones pop up.

This means that in order to keep on top of your SEO, you will need an expert who is up to date on all these changes. Experts like us. So, if you need a helping hand with your SEO, why not get in touch with Digipeak and see what we can help you with?

Appearing high up in the results means that you are increasing your chance of being viewed, and when these visitors realise that you are a locally run business, they may be more likely to come to you.

It doesn’t have to be global

Which is the last thing you will want!

It helps you to learn and grow

Every business needs to improve to succeed, and believe it or not, SEO can help with this. SEO links to the Google Analytics tool, which gives you some valuable insight into your audience and what they need. It will tell you where they live, what they search for and when they are most likely to visit your website.

All of these things can really help you to tailor your marketing efforts, and make the most of your investment.

These are just some of the reasons that you should be trying out SEO for yourself. Whether you are based in Cardiff, or anywhere in the UK, SEO is never something that you should ignore. So, get in touch with us here at Digipeak and see if we can help get your business noticed.

Local SEO

Those small businesses that really want to appeal to local customers should really be looking at their local SEO. As the name suggests, this approach to SEO concentrates on your own location, the town that you are based and the people around it.

It is usually implemented by businesses such as restaurants or non e-commerce shops, which will rely on local trade rather than online business.

The important thing to think about with local SEO is your location, after all, this is the search term that people are most likely to use. Not only should you make sure that it features as a keyword, but you should also ensure that your business is listed in the local search facility on the search engine that you choose. This will help make sure that you appear during searches.

Your website can gain even more promotion by encouraging customers to leave reviews and recommendations, as this will improve your ranking and make you all the more visible.

National SEO

If local SEO looks at those that are in your local area, then unsurprisingly national SEO takes that even wider.

National SEO is often used by companies that have a product that can be promoted and shipped anywhere. They won’t rely on local customers, although of course this is great for them, but they can take their promotion to a much grander scale.

Promoting yourself nationally can be much more competitive, you will not only need to make sure that you really make those keywords work for you, but that you utilise pay per click advertising and have a strong social media presence too.

In doing this, you can see yourself becoming all the more popular online, and attracted customers that could come from a variety of places in the country, if not the world.

Think that it is about time that you harnessed the power of local and national SEO for your website? If you are based in Cardiff, then here at Digipeak we can offer the SEO services that you need.
